Oamaru based Alps 2 Ocean Cycles hire top quality, comfortable and reliable bicycles. Perfect to enjoy the nearby Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail and the fabulous North Otago area.

Oamaru is located on the east coast of the south island, 1 ¼ hours drive north of Dunedin. We are lucky enough to be within 100kms of some of the most beautiful lakes and scenery you will find in New Zealand. In addition to our central location we have a bounty of attractions waiting to be visited, all of which can be easily reached by bicycle.

Our Bikes

Our bicycles are suitable to be used on bike trails, unsealed roads and paved roads. All bikes have suspension and come with a gel seat cover, carrier, bottle cage and pannier bags and helmet (which must be worn on New Zealand roads). They are as comfortable as you are going to get!

We also have a unicycle for the more adventurous, a tandem for the romantics or those wishing to do some teamwork, child trailers and a tag-on pedal trailer. In addition we have a covered trailer which holds up to 12 bikes and has ample luggage space for everyone. We can also arrange hire of a van/s if required and storage for your car can also be arranged.

Taxi Service

We are now offering a “drop-off or taxi” service to Mt Cook for clients who are hiring our bikes. All by prior arrangement as we will only go on an as-needed basis.

Shuttle Service

12 seater van for hire or shuttle service from Oamaru, Christchurch, Timaru & Queenstown.

Destinations

Starting at Aoraki/Mt Cook the 314km Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail descends 780 metres through the McKenzie Basin to Oamaru. Along the trail cyclists will pass Lakes Pukaki, Ruataniwha, Ohau, Benmore, Waitaki and Aviemore and the towns of Twizel, Omarama, Otematata, Kurow, Duntroon, Ngapara and Tokorahi. From Aoraki/Mt Cook to Duntroon (258 km) the trail uses existing tracks and quiet country roads. The next 17km follows the Fossil Trail and the final 39km section uses a disused railway line and quiet country roads.

Alps 2 Ocean Cycles Trailer

Do the Central Otago Rail Trail from Oamaru – throw the bikes on the trailer and take in the sights of the beautiful Waitaki Valley and Lindis Pass before starting the bike trail at Clyde. After finishing the Trail at Middlemarch jump back in the car and visit the MacRaes Gold Mining operation before stopping at Palmerston for a famous McGregors Mutton Pie. Call in at Moeraki for a drink/meal at Fleurs famous restaurant before finishing back at Oamaru. Doesn’t sound too bad does it!

Vanished World trail – limestone rock formations. Historic Harbour/Tyne/Itchen Street. Penguin Colony and Portside Restaurant in the Harbour area. Totara Estate and Clarks Flour Mill south of Oamaru (both Historic listed). Riverstone Kitchen – award winning restaurant 20km north of the CBD. Oamaru Stone Quarry at Weston. Campbells Bay, Kakanui for swimming and surfing.
