About White Water Rafting

Grade 1: Small rough areas - Skill Level: Very Basic
Grade 2: Some rough water - Skill level: basic paddling skill
Grade 3: Whitewater, small waves, maybe a small drop, but no considerable danger - Skill level: experienced paddling skills
Grade 4: Whitewater, medium waves, maybe rocks, maybe a considerable drop - Skill level: whitewater experience
Grade 5: Whitewater, large waves, large volume, possibility of a large drop, requires precise maneuvering - Skill level: advanced whitewater experience

About White Water Sledging

In the late 70's some keen Frenchmen were lying on bags full of lifejackets and polystyrene and floating downstream through river rapids high up in the Alps. In 1981 the first sledge or "hydrospeed" was built and since it's become a recognized sport with competitions organized every year. River purpose-designed and built right here in New Zealand, the sledge is the best way to get up close and personal with the awesome white water.

Rafting grades also apply to white water sledging.
